You can be a Turkish citizen by buying 250.000 USD Real Estate

Foreign nationals can be Turkish citizens by purchasing housing, land, field and workplace in Turkey

The Regulation on the implementation of Turkish Citizenship Law have been amended and the criteria for foreigners to acquire Turkish citizenship have been changed. According to this change:

“It is possible to acquire Turkish citizenship as an exceptional basis for foreign nationals who purchased immovable valued at least $250,000 which were determined by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization not to be sold in 3 years.

Within the scope of this regulation:

  • When you purchase at least 250,000 USD worth of real estate and apply to the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre for Turkish citizenship, your request is put in process
  • Your application is sent to the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization 
  • The Ministry annotates that the real estate can not be sold in 3 years and this must be processed in land registry.
  • The ministry sends the application to the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs and the transactions come to the final stage
  • You are invited to the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs to obtain the identity card and passport of the Republic of Turkey
  • You can receive more than one immovable with a total value of 250,000 USD but you have to apply for them at the same time. 
  • In order to take advantage of this regulation, it is necessary to purchase immovable after 20.09.2018.
  • The transfer of money must be sent to the buyer’s account in an explanatory form, this transfer must be documented with the statement of account during the application.
  • The absence of the seller’s bank account is not important, it is sufficient to prove that the transfer of money to the buyer’s account is carried out by the statement of account.  

Under this regulation, not only you but your family can also acquire citizenship

  • You, your spouse and children under 18 years of age can benefit from this right.
  • Your child can benefit from this right although if he/she is  18 years old, if it is formally documented that he/she needs family care.

The person, who will obtain citizenship by means of immovable land, must annotate that it can not be sold in 3 years.

The buyer may purchase more than one immovable with the amount provided by law on  condition that immovables will be purchased on the same date. Following expression must be specified in the description of immovables; “Under the law, there is a commitment that immovables will not be sold within three years from the date of acquisition”.
